About The Area
Mashantucket is the area in Connecticut home to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, a federally recognized Native American nation. In 1983, the tribe was given federal recognition by an act of Congress. It is the eighth tribal nation to have gained recognition through such a process. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe operates Foxwoods Resort Casino, a deluxe hotel, entertainment and shopping venue.
